Admin presents Anything Goes & General News: Diabetics try new round-the-clock sensor posted at Anything Goes & General News, saying, “Diabetes care is undergoing a transformation: Thousands of patients are switching from a few finger-pricks a day to track their disease to new sensors that keep guard around the clock.

The last six months brought boosts to the technology, as federal health officials approved children’s use of a sensor that works for three days in a row — and cleared the longest-lasting version yet, a seven-day model, for adults.

The ultimate goal is to create an “artificial pancreas,” pairing such sensors with implanted pumps that would automatically dispense insulin to make a diabetic’s blood sugar better resemble a healthy person’s.

That’s still years away. For now, the hope is that these under-the-skin sensors will empower the most vulnerable patients — those who require insulin injections — to make changes that better control their disease. Perhaps more important, they come with alarms that can sound in time to avoid dangerously high or low blood-sugar levels.

“It really catches problems before they’re problems,” says Katie Clark of Grandville, Mich. She bought a sensor for her 7-year-old daughter, and no longer has to wake up in the middle of the night to spot-check whether Ellie’s OK.

But these “continuous glucose monitors” cost up to $1,000, plus at least $350 a month for supplies. Insurance coverage is hit-or-miss: Some do pay but many refuse pending proof that the sensors live up to their promise of better health.”

I have been publishing “Diabetes Carnival” since last two months and I would like to thank all the people who have been contributing their blog articles to my carnival.

As you might know, the next edition is to be published on August 01, 2007. I would like to see participation in ever more larger numbers, so please submit your Diabetes related articles to my Carnival.

You may have a look at my previous Diabetes Carnival Edition. Link for blog article submission is also available in that Edition. If you would like additional categories created for the carnival submission, please use the comments in this post to request additional categories.

You are allowed to submit multiple articles so long as they are relevant to this carnival. But, each article has to be a separate submission.

At the end of every three months, I will select the blogger who has made the maximum quality contributions to this carnival during those three months and I will write a dedicated review of that blog and, of course, the blogger in my website. One other condition for being considered for the blog review is that the blogger should have contributed to my Carnival on all those three months.

Welcome to the June 1, 2007 edition of Diabetes Carnival. This is the first edition of our Diabetes Carnival.

As I had not given adequate time, people have not contributed for this edition. It was expected and I had anyway planned this as an introductory edition.

I will share with you some very informative blogs and websites that I have come across in the Diabetes niche.

The King of Content for Diabetes is http://diabetes.about.com/. It is a massive storehouse of information on Diabetes. Actually, About.com is a knowledge base for any type of topic.

Another website that I consider to be extremely informative and dedicated to Diabetes is David Mendosa’s website. David Mendosa gives you authentic advice on various aspects of Diabetes.

Diabetties.org is an interesting blog that focuses on female Diabetics. This blog is owned by Marianne Szeto, a Type 1 Diabetic. What impressed me most is that Marianne is extremely passionate about this blog that she maintains.

If you are looking for a good Diabetes Directory, then Diabetes Directory.org is a very good resource.

If you want good tips on Diabetes and if you would like to find a site which has frequently asked questions section on Diabetes, then you would do well to visit Diabetes @ LifeTips.

By the way, our blog, Complete Diabetes Information, will also be featuring Diabetes FAQs section, very soon. We plan to build the knowledge base of answers to every possible FAQ on diabetes. The visitors and users of this blog can themselves add FAQs and answers to our FAQs Directory.

Keeping this in mind, I am starting with Diabetes Carnival. The first carnival post will be on June 01, 2007. I know that the time available is too short for a lot of people to participate in the first edition and submit links to articles that they find interesting. But, the first edition will be more of an introductory edition. I will publish the Diabetes Carnival every first of the month.

You will have time till the 27th of the previous month to submit the links to articles of interest, whether published in your site or elsewhere, for inclusion in the Diabetes Carnival.

The frequency of once a month will be reviewed at a later date.
