Managing blood sugar levels requires a balanced and planned diet which must be accompanied by the right diabetes medication to manage and control the disease and not allow it to worsen. Taking exercise seriously is highly recommended together with losing weight, although there is no avoiding the fact that diabetes medication are the most effective in controlling different types of diabetes and they can be taken orally or injected.

Helps Bring Down Blood Sugar Levels

It is common for a diabetic to have very high blood sugar levels that persists over a period of time, and which warrants taking diabetes medication and performing other activities as well that will help keep the problem in check and prevent it from worsening. When insulin is not available in the required quantities, and when a person suffers type 1 diabetes, then the best course of action is taking diabetes medication in the form of insulin that can be injected in order to bring down blood sugar levels. On the other hand, for those suffering from type 2 diabetes, the answer may lie in low cost diabetes medications taken orally which will increase blood glucose.

The pills themselves require different ingredients and there are five classes of such drugs which include sulfonylurea, thiazolidinediones, biguanides, melitinindes as well as alpha-glucosidase inhibitors that are all what goes into the pills that you take to treat diabetes. Each of these diabetes medications work differently and can reduce blood sugar while also enhancing the production of insulin as is required under different diabetic conditions.

However, as part of your diabetes care you should ensure that the drug you are taking is safe to use and it does not do your body any harm as there have been incidences in the past of drugs that have caused hepatitis and disease of the liver. Due to the known problems with these diabetes medications they were subsequently withdrawn from sale.

One such miracle diabetes medication is the drug named Troglitazone whose main function and use was to reduce type 2 diabetes instances and which was also thought to provide relief from complications arising from resistance to insulin and also from diseases of the ovaries. However, this particular diabetes medication was found to have been the cause of serious damage to the liver, and was till some few years back, available in the form of Rezulin and also Romozin. So, if you come across a diabetes medication such as this you need to be very careful about using it if you want to safeguard your overall health.

Thus, you need to act only on the advice of your doctor, who in most cases will be sure to have monitored your liver condition to ensure that no damage is being caused due to low cost diabetes medications when you shop for diabetic medical supplies.

The Diabetic Diet

Dieting is very essential in diabetes. There are disagreeing schools of thought on what is the Greatest diet but below is a guideline with some general principles.

Patients with Type 1 diabetes should have a diet that has more or less 35 calories per kg of body weight per day (or 16 calories per pound of body weight per day). Patients with Type 2 diabetes generally put on a 1500-1800 calorie diet per day to promote weight loss and then the maintenance of ideal body weight. Yet, this may vary depending on the person’s age, gender, activity level, current weight and body form. More overweight individuals may need more calories initially until their weight is less. This is because it takes more calories to maintain a larger body and a 1600 calorie diet for them may boost weight loss that is too fast to be healthy. Men have more muscle mass generally and thus may need more calories. Muscle reduces more calories per hour than fat. (Thus also one reason to regularly exercise and build up muscle!) Also, people whose activity level is low will have less day-to-day caloric needs.

Generally, carbohydrates should make up about 50 percent of the daily calories ( with the accepted range 40-60 percent). Generally, lower carbohydrate intake is linked with lower sugar levels in the blood. Nevertheless the benefits of this can be cancelled out by the problems linked with a higher fat diet taken in to compensate for the lower amount of carbohydrates.. This problem can be improved by substituting monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats for saturated fats.

Most people with diabetes find that it is quite helpful to sit down with a dietician or nutritionist for a consult about what is the best diet for them and how many daily calories they need. It is really essential for diabetics to understand the principles of carbohydrate counting and how to help check blood sugar levels through right diet.

3 Ways to Plan Meals
Some individuals with diabetes, specially individuals who’ve just got it, use a plan called the exchange meal plan as a guide for what they eat each day. The exchange meal plan is really useful for people with diabetes who are overweight or who need to pay close attention to the balance of calories and nutrients they eat every day.

For this meal plan, foods are seperated into 6 groups: starch, fruit, milk, fat, vegetable, and meat. The plan sets a serving size (amount) for foods in every group. And every serving has a similar amount of calories, protein, carbohydrate, and fat. This provides a individual some flexibility in planning meals because they can exchange, or substitute, choices from a food list. The number of servings from each food group recommended for each meal and snack is based on the total number of calories that the individual needs each day.

The other 2 types of meal plans helps to make sure that the sum of carbohydrates that a person’s eating fits up with the insulin or other diabetes medicines he or she is taking. Concentrating on carbohydrate intake is important because carbs are primarily responsible for the rise in blood sugar that happens after eating. With the constant carbohydrate meal plan, the individual eats a certain total of carbohydrates in each meal and snack. Then he or she takes insulin or other diabetes medicines at the identical times and in the same amounts every day. This plan is simple to follow for individuals who commonly eat and work out about the same amount from day to day.

Another option is the carbohydrate counting meal plan. Many people with diabetes use a carb counter, just to see how many carbs each meal or snack has. They then fit their insulin dosage to that carb amount. This plan functions best for individuals who take a dose of insulin (as a shot or with an insulin pump) with every meal. This meal plan works well for people who need more flexibility, because the person takes insulin when actually eating, rather than at a set time each day.

Diabetic ketoacidosis is a little known medical condition. Apart from those who have this condition, and their friends and family, the general populace is fairly ignorant of the severe implications of this condition. If the condition is untreated for too long, it may prove fatal. Type 1 diabetics are prone to suffer this condition. But this condition can just as easily occur in a non-diabetic person. The picture that emerges from studies of this condition shows that persons who have suffered severe dehydration or bacterial infection and viral attacks are susceptible to diabetic ketoacidosis.

Diabetic ketoacidosis is an extremely critical metabolic condition. Normal metabolism breaks the food into the basic form of sugar called glucose. The glucose is used as an energy source for the muscles. Unused glucose is converted to fats and stored for future use in the adipose tissue found all over the body. If the body’s energy requirements cannot be met by the glucose circulating in the blood, the fats are converted back to glucose, and this reconverted glucose is used to meet the energy demands of the body.

The presence of the fatty acid in the blood changes the chemistry of the blood and makes it more acidic than it ought to be. This condition is called ketoacidosis. The body is sufficiently competent to eliminate the excess ketones from the blood on a regular basis. If the ketoacidosis goes beyond the normal level and if it is chronic, then the normal blood chemistry is altered to such an extent that normal life becomes impossible for the sufferer. The high-risk categories are more likely to get diabetic ketoacidosis, but the other catgories are vulnerable to this condition nonetheless.

Diabetic ketoacidosis becomes dangerous due to delayed treatment. Most people who have diabetic ketoacidosis aren’t even aware that they have it. The symptoms manifest themselves in the later stages of the condition. Recognizing them may well mean the difference between a life-critical existence and a normal one. The chief symptoms that are easily discernible are given here for your information.

The skin is the first give-away of diabetic ketoacidosis. It becomes dry, even the lips become dry. It is either flushed or extremely pale. Though the body temperature may be normal, the skin temperature is elevated.

Another telltale sign is impaired vision. A person with diabetic ketoacidosis experiences severe blurring of vision.

Diabetics with diabetic ketoacidosis emit a peculiarly sickening “sweet” odor from their breath. It seems very like the smell from a horse’s mouth which has just fed on fresh grass!

The person with diabetic ketoacidosis can feel very tired, so tired that he sleeps almost throughout the day. He won’t even take part in those activities that he likes.

Extreme nausea and complete loss of appetite.

Mental confusion and lack of comprehension.

Careful monitoring of the blood glucose is the only effective way to control diabetic ketoacidosis. Diabetics who require insulin shots should be extremely regular in taking them. Dehydration must be countered by taking rehydration salts. Supplementary glucose should be taken if the glucose level drops sharply below the minimum level. Everything must be done under proper medical supervision, that goes without saying for such a serious, and possibly fatal, condition! The treatment is not an overnight cure, but it is the only effective one. Take care!

Here’s an amazing story of how one women determined to fight diabetes after her husband collapsed on a wedding night.

Click here to listen to her story

Let’s admit most of us don’t even know that we have diabetes until something like that struck us or our loved one. Unfortunately when that happens it is too late.

She went on declaring war on diabetes so to speak. After scurring through tons of information, she said that she was amazed at the amount of information available.

Unfortunately, over-information and mis-information were a big part of the problem. One doctor recommended a certain type of drug while other doctors recommended a different type while still others spoke out against drugs all together”.

There was a lot of diet charts, food graphs and medical manuals. She almost gave up until finally in her own word she said she cracked the code and stopped diabetes cold.

It is interesting that after talking to dozens of diabetic patients and medical professionals she spotted a patent on how to fight the disease. She began to test what she found on her husband and after confirming with their family doctors it proved that the methods work.

Here are some of the things that she found:

1) Why over a BILLION Asian never get diabetes?

2) Enjoy the food that you love and still be free from diabetes

3) How to defeat diabetes even if you have passion for sweet stuff.

4) The truth about artificial sweeteners, which one works and which one could even be dangerous to your life.

5) A supplement you can take that’s proven to reduce nerve damage from diabetes.

There are lots and lots more information that will even shock the nutrition expert!

If you or someone that you love are suffering from diabetes, it is worth while to listen to her report.

Foot complications of diabetes work like this. A person who has diabetes and who has not been keeping their blood glucose level under control gets an injury on their toe. It begins to bleed and crack. Then bandage it, hoping it will heal. It does not heal and soon the wound becomes infected. They go to the doctor who begins to treat the wound with antibiotics. Sometimes this works, sometimes it does not.

Diabetes does not have to be a killer. Glycemia is life threatening but can be controlled. If you or a loved one has this condition, see the doctor regularly and follow the plans to manage the disease.

Kidney disease

Not everyone who has diabetes gets kidney disease. This is yet another popular misconception about the illness. While uncontrolled glycemia can cause kidney disease, diabetics who maintain their proper blood glucose levels can avoid kidney disease.

Many diabetics are non compliant patients. Non complaint patients are those who do not do what the doctor instructs them to do. They do not follow the diet as recommended in the Glycemic Index. This chart was developed to inform people with diabetes of which foods to avoid. Those foods that are high in the glycemic index take the longest to break down and do the most damage to the kidneys, who try their best to eliminate the waste. The Glycemic Index was developed in 1981 and is a potential lifesaver for anyone with this disease as it clearly states which foods to avoid.

Diabetes is not necessarily a precursor to kidney disease. Kidney disease and diabetes are two different diseases. One does not always lead to the other.

Eye complications of diabetes take a long time to develop. The first is usually damage to the retina. Tiny blood vessels make up the retina and too much blood glucose cause these vessels to swell. They gradually begin to weaken and the person begins to experience vision problems. For this reason, a person with diabetes should have an eye exam once a year. During the exam, the eyes should be dilated to see if the condition has become worse.

The name for eye complications of diabetes is called diabetic retinopathy. A person with diabetes should rely on a qualified ophthalmologist who is familiar with this condition.

Many eye complications of diabetes can be avoided if a person with the condition maintains a healthy lifestyle and is compliant in their diabetic treatment. Maintain your weight by exercise. Eat a proper diet that eliminates carbohydrates and sugars and become familiar with the Glycemic Index. Avoid alcohol and do not smoke. Take prescribed medications as directed by your physician and see your physician at intervals suggested by him or her. Monitor your blood glucose level as often as prescribed. By being compliant in the care of your disease, you can avoid eye complications of diabetes as well as other more life threatening complications of this disease.

Foot complications of diabetes

Whenever we think about people with diabetes, we often think of them as having problems with their feet. This is one of the most common complications of diabetes and diabetes, more than anyone, need to make certain that they address any problems with their feet early on as such problems can result in a life threatening condition.

In some cases, however, the gangrene has already spread to the foot. Plus, the amputation risks more infection. In many cases, not only does the person lose their toe, but their entire foot. And this can continue until they lose their leg.

This information is not meant to frighten anyone with diabetes. It is only to make a person realize how vital it is for anyone with this condition to be aware of the feet complications of diabetes. No one has to lose a toe or a foot or a leg. They simply need to manage their disease so that they can retain a healthy blood glucose level that will enable them to fight off any infection that may arise from a bump on the foot and stave off neuropathy. By maintaining a healthy glucose level and avoiding glycemia, a person with diabetes can lead a full life. The trick is to follow the rules dictated by the condition.

Due to the lack of - if not inaccurate - information on type 2 diabetes, people are developing the misconception that type 2 diabetes may be ignored. What most people don’t know is that type 2 diabetes, as with any other health conditions, should be given equal attention if they are ever to prevent it from worsening. One way to emphasize and educate people on the early detection and treatment of type 2 diabetes is through type 2 diabetes information.

Why We Need Info

Nobody these days is exempted from developing a diabetes condition. If you think that only genes play a role in diabetes, think again. According to recent type 2 diabetes info, stressful lifestyles, improper diets and being overweight are now considered risk factors that may lead to diabetes.

Knowing the risk factors and signs and symptoms as means of determining the condition are not enough. This is because not everyone exhibit the typical signs and symptoms of diabetes and as such, the condition may be remained overlooked and untreated. What you need to search for are reliable information on diabetes type 2 that informs you of the risks even without the signs and symptoms.

Early Detection of Type 2 Diabetes

Other than type 2 diabetes, people may also suffer from diabetes type 1. What is most common even in young people, however, is type 2 diabetes.

Your type 2 diabetes information should be able to tell you how to minimize the risks of developing the condition and even how to prevent it from complicating if you already have it. Diabetes is not only all about blood sugar levels. Diabetes patients must keep in mind that it can also complicate into heart failures and other cardio conditions as well as kidney failure, nerve damage and even limb amputation.

Diabetic’s Diet

Not all cases of type 2 diabetes may require one to take extensive medication. Early stages of type 2 diabetes may still yet be prevented from worsening through proper diet following your dietician or nutritionist’s advise.

Reliable Type 2 Diabetes Info Sources

The most trusted resource for diabetes information should be your doctor or physician. Experimenting on your own with diet adjustments may only cause fluctuations in your blood sugar level that could lead to a complications. However, it is advisable to research ahead for diabetes information on your own before seeing your doctor.

Researching ahead of time will give you time to think about your condition and come up with questions you may need to ask your doctor about. When looking for type 2 diabetes information on the internet, it is always best to start with government and medical organization sites and to compare which information seem to be consistent throughout the websites and which ones seem hazy. Furthermore, you can also log on to support groups and forums where you can interact with other diabetes patient’s who can offer valuable insight into your condition.

It is sad but true that diabetes is a significant health concern in the West which can be seen when we find that there are an estimated three to five percent Westerners affected by this silent killer of a disease, and an estimated one million Canadians are also so affected. Diabetes generally causes an individual’s body cells to become unable to absorb as well as use glucose in an adequate manner and for various reasons including becoming resistant to the hormone known as insulin or because of lack of insulin. And, without proper diabetes care, the patient’s body cells may become starved of fuel that is needed to provide energy to the body and sugar will not then be able to get into the cells, thus causing elevated levels of it in the blood.

Change Diet, Exercise Sufficiently And Take Medications

There are both immediate health problems associated with diabetes as well as long term complications and to prevent the condition from worsening, obviously the diabetic requires proper diabetes care. Thus, to manage diabetes may require paying special attention to the diet the patient takes, and the need for them to exercise adequately and to also take medications whenever required so as to control blood sugar levels and keep the level as close to normal as is possible. Furthermore, diabetes can take either one of three forms that are Type 1, Type 2 and also gestational diabetes, with the last mentioned form of diabetes affecting only pregnant women.

Therefore, it stands to reason that diabetes care is an essential requirement in order to monitor as well as ensure that the diabetic is taking adequate care to control the problem, and in this, there are few ways that he or she can check their condition, especially when in a pre-diabetic stage, and before the diabetes becomes a full blown health concern.

It is certainly necessary for the patient to know of his or her family history, and if someone in the immediate family was or still is a diabetic, then chances of the individual also being diabetic is increased. However, one of the problems with diabetes care is that it often requires a lot of effort and it can easily tire the individual out, and thus should only be used if it cannot be avoided. Having a regular checkup is one aspect of diabetes care that is not so tiresome and which can and should be done in order to closely keep tabs on the progress or lack of it in a patient’s health.

Avoiding smoking is another aspect of diabetes care, and in any case proper care is a continuous process that requires closely monitoring the health to ensure fewer further complications, and to also manage the existing condition and keeping it as close to normal as is possible. Being vigilant is also another aspect to diabetes care and so is having an eye examination performed which must be taken once in a year at least, because diabetes will affect a person’s eyes and thus needs to be addressed at the earliest.

There has been a serious rise in the number of diabetes cases over the past several years. This unfortunate increase affects not just our adult population. Many overweight children have developed type 2 diabetes. Is there a connection between diabetes and magnesium deficiency?

Research studies say yes, that magnesium deficiency is associated with insulin resistance. What exactly is insulin resistance? It is the blocking of the insulin protein, produced by the pancreas, in converting glucose into energy.

Weight is a factor in type 2 diabetes in children. Overweight children also showed a higher magnesium deficiency rate than children in the normal weight range. Magnesium deficiency is seen in 55 percent of overweight children, and it is reported that over 75 percent of our population is deficient in this vital nutrient.

Studies conducted at the University of Virginia measured serum magnesium, insulin sensitivity, and magnesium intake through diet in children with type 2 diabetes. This study showed a correlation between insulin resistance and magnesium deficiency in children.

Our diets do not provide us sufficient magnesium, and the excess body fat that we carry does not allow us to properly use the magnesium we have to break down carbohydrates. Magnesium can be absorbed through transdermal application. Absorption through the skin is a much easier method than using an intravenous method. Many state that they feel more relaxed after applying transdermal magnesium.

The conclusion was that improving the magnesium levels in children is important in preventing type 2 diabetes. Diabetes Care 28:1175-1181, 2005. Magnesium Deficiency is Associated with Insulin Resistance in Obese Children.

When a person is diagnosed with diabetes, most of them need to prepare for the illness but also for the potential complications that could come along with it. The most common form of diabetes is type 2 diabetes and this is when either the person’s cells ignore the insulin production or they are not producing enough insulin. Insulin is necessary in taking sugar from the blood and delivering them to the cells. Without this function, the impairment can put a person in great risk.

At first, being diagnosed with this news could be quite dire but there is always a way to maintain live a good life. Type 2 diabetes or diabetes mellitus is a serious illness but many patients have lived a long and enjoyable lives. Knowing the pertinent details that come with diabetes will help improve a patient’s chances of surviving the disease.

Diabetes is also a disease that can occur in any race and for people of different ages. There are some groups that have a higher risk when it comes to type 2 diabetes such as Latinos, African Americans, Native Americans, Pacific Islanders, Asians and most of the older population. What has been a primary concern for those suffering type 2 diabetes is obesity and excessive weight gain.

That is because the body of those suffering from type 2 diabetes suffer from a decrease of insulin resistance, reduced blood pressure and reduced lipemia. Weight gain is a common problem among those who suffer type 2 diabetes but it is important to maintain a healthy lifestyle and a diet to combat this condition. So, the most important fact that type 2 diabetes must have in their therapy is weight loss.

Those who have gained a lot of weight due to their diabetes have many options for weight loss. There are a variety of weight-reduction diets and low-calorie diets. Weight-reduction diets are not as effective as low-calorie diets and a problem is that some people who have tried the former, have a difficult time maintaining their normal weight.

Other strategies of weight loss among patients include meal replacements, weight loss medications and repetitive uses of low-calorie diets. Meal replacements come in both solid and liquid form (this has been proven effective in maintenance once a patient has lost a considerable amount of weight). Oral medications help patients lose some weight because they can maintain blood sugar at a certain level. Very low-calorie diets must be closely supervised by a physician since it could result into metabolic abnormalities.

The cheapest form of weight control is exercise. A patient suffering from a medical condition should consult his physician about an exercise for their present condition. And should strictly follow the regiment assigned to them. Regular exercise and a proper diet can definitely lead to a healthy lifestyle.

When the patient is faced with a dilemma of having to fight for their life against a major disease, losing the weight is a challenge but it is important to have friends and family to be near them and support them. Support is very important for weight loss goals to be achieved. Also, it is important that love ones are educated about a person’s disease and understand the nature of a patient’s condition.
