Pre diabetes is a condition that occurs just before the onset of type 2 diabetes. Pre diabetes is generally asymptomatic. In other words, it will not show any evidence of heading towards diabetes. Please read further about what are the tests that can be done to diagnose pre diabetes and if pre diabetes is diagnosed, then, what steps that one needs to take to prevent the onset of type 2 diabetes.

In the case of Pre Diabetes, a person would have higher than normal glucose levels. But, it would not be so high for diagnosis of diabetes. You need to know how to prevent Pre Diabetes in a timely manner. Pre Diabetes is just one step before type 2 diabetes. Type 2 diabetes is a disease that will create quite a bit of health complications and you will need to make changes to your lifestyle alongwith proper control and monitoring of the disease.

The main issue with Pre Diabetes is that, generally, there will not be any symtoms. During Pre Diabetes stage, a person may never know that he is heading towards diabetes. When a person starts suffering from diabetes, only then, the symtoms like increased thirst, blurry vision and unexplained fatique may develop.

What Testing To be Done?

You can determine if there is pre diabetes through two different tests. The first test is called Fasting Plasma Glucose Test and the second one is called Oral Glucose Tolerance Test. Actually, knowledge of pre diabetes through any of these tests will also help you to prevent getting type 2 diabetes. Even though, in many of the cases, it may be possible to prevent the onset of diabetes through this testing, but, in some of the people, it may only be possible to delay the onset of diabetes and not prevent it. Either of these tests, to determine the blood glucose levels, should be taken by anyone who has crossed forty years of age and especially overweight.

Through these testing, once a person is aware that he has pre diabetes, he can avoid or delay the onset of type 2 diabetes by taking further steps as outlined in the subsequent paragraphs.

What Are The Next Steps?

To arrest the onset of diabetes, you need to take the following steps once you have already been diagnosed with pre diabetes. If you follow these steps seriously and diligently, then there is a considerable chance that you may not get diabetes.

Instead of the usual 20 minutes walk three days in a week, increase it to 30 minutes of moderate physical activity five times a week.

Continuous physical activity that can be done everyday is better than vigorous exercise occasionally.

Activities like power walking, swimming, light aerobics or even dancing are good starters.

In fact, an excellent dance form is belly dancing. It can be practised by both men and women. With this dance form, you could maintain a flat belly as well as a fit body. Since, this dancing is a little more vigorous, go slow on this.

You need to target losing five to ten percent of your total body weight. Have a target of losing around 5 pounds in 90 days to start with. This is easily achievable.

Losing weight is definitely a very daunting process and sometimes will leave you quite frustrated. My advice is that take it forward slowly and steadily. As a starter, cut down on fat and sugar, and avoid junk food. If you crave for sweets, take sugar-free, fat-free ice-creams or desserts. Cultivate the habit of having coffee without any sugar (bitter coffee). In fact, I started having bitter coffee since last one year and now I just cannot stand coffee with sugar. I am so used to bitter coffee that I have started loving it.

After losing the initial pounds, use that as a motivation to lose additional pounds, always in small achievable levels.

As a pre diabetic, regular testing for blood glucose levels, being physically active, pro actively working on your body weight and reducing on sugar, fat and junk foods progressively will definitely help you to possibly reverse your blood glucose levels to a normal range and you may be able to completely bypass the possibility of diabetes.
